RESEARCH TECHNICIAN II

POSITION DESCRIPTION AND REQUIREMENTS:
Research Technician II needed in the laboratory of Scott Floyd in the Departments of Radiation Oncology/ Pharmacology Cancer Biology at Duke University School of Medicine. This position will focus on testing genetic and drug strategies to inhibit invasive growth of glioma cells in unique ex vivo models of brain cancer as well as studying immune therapy effects in combination with radiation therapy in mouse models of brain metastasis.
Primaryduties and responsibilities:
- Perform experiments using ex vivo organotypic murine brains lice tumor model.
- Monitor tumor cell growth via bioluminescence imaging.
- Monitor tumor cell growth and invasion via stereoscope and confocal microscopy
- Care for laboratory mice.
- Perform basic laboratory mouse experiments with tumor induction, treatment and measurement.
- Perform experiments using CRISPR, molecular cloning, cell biology and biochemistry.
- Document results by maintaining logs, charting data, and preparing reports.
- Maintain an organized and complete electronic laboratory notebook detailing all experiments and associated actions.
- Keep project leader/PI informed by clearly communicating all important positive and negative results.
- Participate in journal clubs and assemble presentations to share project progress with laboratory members.
- Collaborate with lab members to advance common goals, projects, and maintenance activities.
- Perform routine laboratory inventory, ordering and stocking tasks.
- Participate in mentorship by working with and guiding undergraduate researchers.
- Work with lab manager and PI to keep equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by complying with regulations and following standards and procedures.
- Protect organization's value by keeping research information confidential; and maintaining highest integrity in data collection and maintenance.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical bulletins.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.
Experience
None required above education/training requirement. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
